A timed sheet on subtracting 10

Subtracting 10, from 10 − 10 to 22 − 10. Every problem on the sheet is drawn from that set and nothing outside it.

Where subtracting 10 goes wrong

Taking 10 away drops the tens digit by one and leaves the ones digit alone — 17 − 10 = 7. This range measures place value in reverse, and a changed ones digit means place value has not settled. It is the value worth confirming before a child moves on to two-digit subtraction.

Why does subtracting 10 leave the ones digit alone?
